What is “Let’s Read”?  / Let’s Read是什麼?

Let’s Read is a multi-sectoral project led by JCI Chaktomuk Chapter which aims to
promote long-term sustainable development in one rural area of Cambodia: Tram Kak district (with 144,032 inhabitants). Our focus is to address some of the basic needs in our target area and to engage with local authorities, as well as with other stakeholders and citizens, to ensure that our project provides a long-term solution to the most important development challenges in the target area.

Let’s Read是由JCI Chaktomuk分會發起的多部門工作計劃,目的是為柬埔寨鄉郊地區——Tram Kak﹙14.4萬人口﹚推動長期可持續發展。我們著重解決當地人的基本需要,通過與當局、持份者、居民接洽,確保我們能為目標地區最重要的發展挑戰,提供長期可行方案。

What development challenges? / 我們解決什麼發展挑戰?

Poverty 貧窮
Poverty rate in Cambodia was 13.5%. About 90% of the poor live in the countryside. 
柬埔寨的貧窮率達13.5%,當中有9成居住於鄉郊地區

Education 教育
Only 43% of population completes lower secondary education.
只有43%人口完成初中教育。

Water 水資源
79% do not have access to piped water supply; 58% do not have access to improved sanitation.
79%人口沒有自來水供應;58%沒有比較好的衛生用水

Sexual assault 性侵犯

5% of Cambodian girls have suffered from sexual assualt prior to age 18.

Traffic accidents 交通意外
In 2015, traffic accidents killed 2,265 people and injured more than 15,000; 40% of whom were seriously injured.
2015年,交通意外導致2265人死、15000傷,當中4成傷者更是重傷

What are the objectives? / 我們有何目標?

While we mainly focus was on the establishment of the first educational resource center for the whole Tram Kak district, we also undertook some additional activities, such as setting up of 9 toilets for improved sanitation and prevention of sexual assaults against girls, and undertaking awareness raising events for better health, sanitation and traffic safety.

我們除了專注建立全Tram Kak第一個教學資源中心外,亦籌劃其他活動,如起建廁所,以改善衛生及把男女分開來防止性侵犯;舉辦提升公眾關注健康、衛生、交通安全的活動。

Milestones in 2017 / 2017里程碑

  • District officials from the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports, commune authorities, and principals and teachers from 3 primary schools, signed a formal agreement with JCI Chaktomouk Chapter to support establishment of the educational resource center in Tram Kak district and ensure its maintenance and use by citizens and students.
    柬埔寨教育、青年及運動局的地區官員、鎮政府、及來自3間學校的校長與老師,與JCI Chaktomouk簽署正式協議,支持於Tram Kak建立教學資源中心,承諾維護並確保市民及學生充分利用中心資源。

  •  The first ever library and educational resource center was fully equipped with 765 books and furniture.

    歷來首個圖書館及教學資源中心,已有765本書及完整的傢俱設備。

  •  Materials packages were distributed to teachers from 3 primary schools and 1,000 students from families living in poverty. Study package for each teacher included books and clothes.
    三間學校的老師及超過1000名貧窮家庭學生得到一些教學及生活用品:學生們得到練習簿、顏色筆、牙膏牙刷及文具套裝;教師則獲發書籍及衣物。

  • 9 toilets were built in 5 villages to improve sanitation and prevent sexual assaults against girls.
    在5個村落起建9個廁所,以改善衛生及把男女分開來防止性侵犯

  • 2 major public events in which JCI members and hundreds of citizens joined to promote awareness about importance of education, basic health habits and prevention of traffic accidents.
    舉行2場公眾活動,過百名青商會員及市民一同宣傳教育、健康習慣及防止交通意外的重要性。
